BI Foresight Briefings

How will AI impact deep-tech innovation? Opportunities. Risks. Rewards.

Welcome to BI Foresight Briefings, a short series of in-depth articles on the role of AI in robotics, future telecoms networks, quantum technologies and advanced materials.

Artificial intelligence is now treated as infrastructure. It is expected to sit behind everything, from robotics and telecoms networks to quantum systems and the discovery of new materials. The assumption is that it will transform all of them, more or less at once. That is unlikely. UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) describes AI as a “general purpose technology”, one that will shape the economy and society over the next two decades.

While it is still early, patterns are beginning to emerge. This editorial series maps that progress through industry, academic and investor perspectives, supported by data, interviews and analysis, to show where value is emerging and what continues to hold deployment back.

Foresight Live events will also explore these subjects in depth. Contributors to these briefings and other industry experts will come together to answer key questions around practicability and commercial realties. Each session will include a live panel discussion and audience Q&A. Registration links are available on each briefing page.

We hope you find them useful and an informing read.
